Flintz & T4ylor, was one of the most remarkable of the 2022 series of Britain’s Got Talent. Flintz, a 22-year-old rapper from Croydon, and T4ylor, a 17-year-old pianist from Birmingham, shocked the judges by revealing a crucial detail: they had never met in person until the day of their audition, having only collaborated virtually via Instagram during the first COVID-19 lockdown .
For their performance, the duo presented an original piece called “Change” . Flintz explained that the song was deeply personal, chronicling his past as a “troublesome kid” who was “going down the wrong path” . His core motivation for the song was to inspire his younger brothers, hoping they would “not follow the same footsteps” and ultimately “be better than me” .
The performance itself was a powerful display of raw, complementary talent. With T4ylor playing the piano and Flintz delivering the rap, their lack of a rehearsal was completely unnoticeable. Flintz poured his “heart and my soul into music” , rapping about stealing, facing suspensions, and how he “made my parents cry,” all while his younger brothers and father watched from the audience.
The intense emotion of the lyrics and delivery clearly struck a chord with the judges. Simon Cowell noted that the performance “shouldn’t have worked,” given their situation, but praised the fact that the entire performance felt “real” . He observed that even Flintz’s voice “kind of broke with emotion at the end,” highlighting the genuine honesty of the act .
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Amanda Holden praised T4ylor’s “phenomenal” piano skills and loved hearing the story, stating that their unique combination of talent and story was everything the show looks for in an act. Simon Cowell called it “absolutely A Perfect audition in my opinion”.
Alesha Dixon, moved to tears by the powerful message and performance, said, “Nothing makes me more happy than seeing Young Musicians” . She concluded by stating, “we’ve had no one on the show like you before,” and with that, Alesha reached out and hit the Golden Buzzer , sending Flintz & T4ylor straight through to the live semi-finals.
